Enchiriadis Treis Choir Joins Global Sing for Peace
10 Year Commemoration of 9/11
-93.jpg)
In an event titled “Ireland Remembers', Malahide's Enchiriadis Treis Choir took part in the Global Sing For Peace on Sunday September 11th, 2011. For most of us, both performers and audience, this was our first visit to The Convention Centre, a cylinder of glass around light that tilts out towards the River Liffey.
People attending the Concert were 'blown away' by the excellence of the performance, both by the Choir, the Orchestra and the Soloists. Here are just a few of the many enthusiastic comments:
“The hairs stood up on the back of my neck when I heard those marching feet in The Armed Man...but it was just the start of a most dramatic piece of choral music”.
“How on earth did you create that sound like wind in the trees during the Psalms!”.
“Oh, the purity of the boy soprano's voice. I could listen forever”.
“The orchestra and choir were superb. A wonderful afternoon of music”.
Paddy Maloney's plaintive music and Paula Meehan's evocative poem set the tone for an afternoon that blended grief for the 9/11 dead and the manner of their dying with a determination towards peace. Both performers and audience held a sense of being part of a passionate global sing for peace which created in all of us a feeling that we were part of something more than ourselves, something quite significant and profound.
And while this feeling dissipated as we moved back into our ordinary lives that evening and in the days to follow it was good to know that there was a fitting marker of the afternoon - Enchiriadis Treis Choir had raised Euro15,000.00 towards The Ark's initiative in the Inner City. Proof that when people gather together in goodwill, in the words of Heaney's poem, 'Anything Can Happen'.
